Over the past two months, some 130,000 people have voted online to choose the new organic symbol from three finalists. The winning design is by Dusan Milenkovic, a student from Germany, who gained 63% of the overall vote for his “Euro-leaf” logo (however, doesnt Deutsch from Germany).

From 1st July 2010, the organic logo of the EU will be obligatory on all pre-packaged organic products that have been produced in any of the EU Member States and meet the necessary standards. The “Euro-leaf” design shows the EU stars in the shape of a leaf against a green background.  It is a very straightforward sign containing two clear messages: Nature and Europe.

The winner and the winners of the second and third prize will be honoured by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development at an official award ceremony that will take place in Brussels in July 2010.

For example they may have never experienced or seen the large Pepsi cups used for a Large Pepsi at an francaise gas station so it is hard to imagine and draw a typical gas station scene. Interior colors, design and textures are not exactly the same in others countries. For this reason, some illustrations can take on a very subtle d’Avid Boutique flavor. These problems can be overcome with some reference photographs or pictures to convey the feel that you want. Selected is not an award, but rather, as its name suggests, it is a selection of interesting projects completed during the past year. These are chosen by a selection team which is annually designated by the publisher – Index Book.

The idea originated in the Spanish project, Select which, for the past 8 years, has been showcasing a selection of the best graphic design from Spain. The success of this project has inspired Index Book to launch a European edition of this design yearbook.

The projects are picked out by a team of renowned professionals from various fields in visual communication who meet up to make a selection of the best work pieces among all the entries received. Only the projects chosen from their expert point of view shall be ultimately included in the book.

The annual is presented with an original design and in a special format, smaller than the average yearbook. The book is divided into three different categories (Graphic Design, New Media and Schools) and each project is featured individually in a double page spread. Instead of being numbered, each edition of Selected is assigned a letter in alphabetical order. The letter for each volume is also the initial of the font face used in the book. For instance, the first volume in the series is named ‘Selected A’ referring to the font face AkzidGroBe. This is Index Book‘s special way of paying homage to typography as an emblematic element in design.
